Happy Children's Day

Today (October 1) is Dia de los Ninos in Guatemala. A friend of mine who is a missionary in Guatemala mentioned it on Face.book so I did some minimal research on the holdiay (Thanks Wiki.pedia!). I am thinkig that as Samuel gets older, celebrating this day might be a good way to celebrate his Guatemalan heritage. I need to research some more to find out how this day is celebrated (if any reader knows, let me know) but celebrating kids sounds like a wonderful idea.

Just curious, for those of you with children of different race or heritage, do you do anything special (or do you plan to do anything) to celebrate the differences or celebrate any holidays specific to your child's race/heritage?

I love that idea...you are such an awesome mommy. What if boy 1 helped plan the day, I bet he would love that. It would mean so much to him to be part of it.

That's odd, I lived in Guatemala for 5 years and never heard of this day. Too bad since I was technically a kid for part of that time I would have liked a day to celebrate myself.

Yes we plan on celebrating holidays but I struggle with exactly how to do it.
If I had a child with Guatemalan heritage I think I would celebrate their independence day for sure, Sept 15th I believe.
I feel it's easier when it's an actual country.

We'll attend a Martin Luther King Jr parade and we did Juneteenth this year. Those type of holidays or celebrations are what I'll try to incorporate into our family.

Great idea! I don't have kids w/ a different heritage but I do teach my girls about different cultures. I love it.

I just got back from DFW! My FIL lives in Lucas. Our son is from S. Korea. I do plan on reading more about the culture of his birth country. We are not sure what traditions we may incorporate into our lives from the Korea culture. It may be a decision he makes when he is a little older.
BTW. I am doing a giveaway on my blog to spread awareness of our non profit.
