Big News!

Although a lot of our family and friends know this already, I am officially announcing to the world that we are starting the process to adopt again.  We are going to go the international route (from Rwanda) this time and I am very anxious to get the process started.

From all of the research I have done, we should have a new son join our family in 12 - 18 months.  I have already called the social worker that did the home study for our domestic adoption and he is willing and able to do our home study for this adoption too.  I am hoping that we'll be able to get the home study done relatively quickly since he already knows us and can use our prior home study as a starting point for a lot of the boiler plate stuff.  Unfortunately the first part of the process (after the home study) is getting approval from the INS and the Dallas field office has one of the longest processing times in the country.  The national average to process a I-600A is 3.5 months and the Dallas office averages 7.7 months.  We are just starting the process and I am already annoyed by the potential delays but just pray and hope that our son is/will be well taken care of until we can get to Rwanda.

I'll be using this blog to track our progress in this journey.

I will be happy to answer any questions if you leave them in the comments.

OH wow!! That is so cool!! Loren and I want another baby but I have rough pregnancies. After Morgan my doc wanted to tie my tubes because he doesn't recommend I have another baby. Even recently he has told me that I shouldn't get pregnant. And we have been trying for 14 months with no luck. So we have tossed around the idea of adoption. It's scary. Loren has 3 adopted siblings. Anyway I'm interested to see your process! I'm so excited for you.

I know this is a personal decision but just wondering why you are going for another boy and not a girl? Not that it matters...just curious. Also, can you only adopt boys from Rwanda? Anyway thanks for any info you've got Kelly!!

That is SO awesome! I am so, so, so excited for you guys.

I hope the Dallas office can get their butts in gear. There's nothing worse than waiting on other people's incompetence, especially for something so important!

Looking forward to reading along as things develop.

So exciting! Glad you're moving forward with this.
Do you have to go to the Dallas office you mentioned? Or is that just the processing office. We had our fingerprints done at the office on Northwest highway, they're supposed to be the quickest.
Our Home Study was approved on Dec 22nd, but not sure when they sent it to USCIS. We received our letter to come to do fingerprints on Jan 22nd (with no set date). Did fingerprints on Feb 13th (be sure to check when the office is closed). Had to reword the Home Study because of a format change. And received our I-171h in our mailbox on April 7th.
Of course that was 2007 so things have changed since them I'm sure.

Good luck and I'll be praying for you and your son.
What age range will he be when he comes home?

Terrific!

May I suggest that you make a friend in the Dallas field office? It never hurts to have someone with an inside track that can go to bat for you, to speed things up :)
